Day 2 Reunion

Day 2
Today was another AMAZING day! In the morning we went to Arroyo Seco – A village that I have worked in with Hero Holiday for the past three years. I have become very attached to this village. We built a school out there, and have become very close with the people who live in the community. We were not expecting a lot of kids to be there since we were there during the school day. However we learned today that the kids here only go to school for a half days, either in the morning or afternoon. So to our surprise there were actually a lot of kids around and we had an amazing morning. To add to it all, one girl that I have known since the very beginning, three years ago, I found out last year that she only lived in Arroyo Seco part time, since her parents divorced. So when she walked around the corner of the school today I was very surprised and overjoyed to see her. I was not at all expecting it and it made the entire trip out there worth it.

We had brought a few things to give away while we were there, so I packed some stuff in my backpack before we left to walk the village. I went to one families house that I have known for a couple of years, and I have become very close with the two sisters of this family. When I first arrived, the younger sister walked out of the house with a t-shirt on that I had given her last year. I was very happy to know that she was actually using what I gave her, and it was a bit of an emotional moment for me.

Although the older sister was at school, I still went into her house privately to give them some donations like a pair of shoes, new underwear and a new hat for the younger sister. I also left a hat for her older sister. Her and her mother were very grateful and the mother got a little emotional. It is moments like this that make me want to come back and continue on with this work. It is moments like this that make everything I do to get here so worth it.
